Just a bad week...

It is a bit of an understatement to say that this has been a bad week but, that's what I'll call it.  This will come as a bit of a surprise to a lot of people but, just before Christmas(December 22), Graham & I found out we were pregnant.  I have to admit I cried a little at first.  I had entertained the idea of a third baby but, I wasn't planning (or trying) to get pregnant right before I returned to work.  It was just such a surprise that it was a little overwhelming.  After sitting down and chatting with Graham, things seemed great and very manageable.  We told our families and some close friends who were shocked but, very happy.  Unfortunately on Monday I started spotting and had an ultrasound on Wednesday that confirmed our worst fears.  It was a "blighted ovum".  What that means is the egg fertilizes, implants but, then never develops after that and you eventually miscarry.  It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride but, I was really starting to get excited about a new baby in the house.  I am the poster child for "Everything happens for a reason" but, that doesn't make it any easier when you first find out.  I'm doing better now and just letting nature take its course.  I'm sad about what could have been but, it just wasn't meant to be right now.  Will there be more babies down the road?  That is something Graham & I will be discussing and we'll see.  It's not completely out of the question but, we'll see where life takes us.  For now I'm enjoying my beautiful family and thanking all my friends/family who have been there for me (you all know who you are!!) during an extremely rough time!

Hope everyone is looking forward to their weekend!  I'm OK and looking forward to spending some quality time outside with the kids now that the weather is finally starting to improve!  I'm off to get the kids to bed and I'll be back soon!

Back to the grind!

I guess it's a bit of stretch since I'm only back to work for 3 days a week but, I have to say it was a bit nerve-wracking being back to work after 13 months of maternity leave.  I did sleep last night so I wasn't too worried about the day but, now I just need to get my body out of "maternity leave" mode.  It was a great first day back and I'm actually looking forward to getting back into more of a routine.  The kids are at a wonderful dayhome and that makes life much easier.  Working part-time makes things even better because I get to be home with my children more than I'm away.

I had to leave quite early for work and Dania wasn't up before I left.  When she woke up she asked Graham where I was and he told her that I had gone to work.  Her next question was, "Is Mommy bringing home the bacon too?".  Daddy's reply was "Yes".  Her next statement was, "But Daddy, Mommy doesn't even like bacon!".  The things that come out of that child's mouth just make me laugh.

Work is about an hour long drive each way but, it isn't so bad.  It gets to be my time when I can listen to whatever music I want, as loud as I want, and it gives me time to just be with me.  The drive home is always a bit longer but, that gives me more time to de-stress after my day.  I'm very lucky that Daddy is able to drop off and pick up the kids at daycare so I don't feel rushed to get home at a certain time.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the first day back wasn't so bad and I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine.  I do miss the kids when I'm at work but, I certainly will appreciate them even more when I am at home.  Hope everyone had a good day and is enjoying 2011 so far!!  I'll keep you updated on how things are going with being back to work!!
